During Rob Giordano’s tenure as the Sonoma County Sheriff, he led the evacuation strategy for the 2017 Sonoma Complex fires (Tubbs, Nuns, and Pocket fires). The 2017 Sonoma Complex fires rank among the most significant wildfire disasters in our state. As Sheriff, Giordano was responsible for evacuations, media messaging, and other aspects of the wildfire disaster response. Giordano gained a strong understanding of large-scale disaster management, especially what is required for effective and safe wildfire evacuations. His leadership and contributions during the 2017 fires was recognized by Congress, California’s State Legislature, and several local groups. Giordano retired as the Sonoma County Sheriff after serving 29 years in law enforcement and started a law enforcement consulting practice.
During Clint Shubel’s tenure as Assistant Sonoma County Sheriff, he served as the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Department Operations Center Incident Commander during the 2017 Sonoma Complex fires (Tubbs, Nuns and Pocket fires). Shubel and his team were responsible for developing and implementing evacuations, patrol operations, mutual aid, rescue missions, repopulating residents, missing person investigations, and coroner operations. Most of Shubel's 25 years of law enforcement experience was in operational capacities, such as patrol, tactical planning, and emergency management. Before starting CAS Safety Consulting, Shubel worked as a Health and Safety Coordinator for a large construction company. His additional expertise is in fire prevention, emergency action plans, and general health and safety responsibilities related to the construction industry.
